Before leaving to Chicago, I had no idea there were so many alleyways in the city. Now that I think about it, it makes sense though. Just never really thought about alleys. So this one time when Andrew and I were on our way to a photo location (I don’t remember exactly which one but it’s safe to say it was a parking garage), google maps actually lead us through this one as the fastest way to get to our final destination. It seemed a little sketch with the smell of super greasy food, what it looked like people taking a cigarette break in the alley, and just an overall darkness hanging above us but other than all that I saw no reason not to walk through. LOL.

So we did.

Then I saw this puddle and probably spent a good 5 minutes just standing in front of it. I was trying to find a good reflection and then patiently waited for someone to walk past. I think the smell was starting to get to me and I was tempted to just ask Andrew to walk past a few times but then at the moment I was about to give up, two people actually walked past. You can see the second person a little bit closer to the wall on the right hand side.

Because I didn’t want that second person to be so visible and I thought this image would lend itself so well to it, I decided to convert it to black and white. In the end, it was just more interesting to just reduce it down to its lines and shapes and really bringing the attention to the person in the middle and the reflection. I love the way that it turned out. It actually kinda makes me want to go back to some older images and looking at them in black and white. It’s seriously a whole totally different point of view.

You may or may not have noticed from some of my previous blog posts that I have a huge love for Las Vegas. LOL. It’s honestly one of my favorite places to be and am so confused whenever people say that they don’t like it. I mean, what’s not to like? Good food, lots to see and do, pretty lights? Honestly, it’s a head scratcher. LOL. But out of all the times that I’ve been to Vegas, I haven’t been to the Neon Museum, but I also have never been to Fremont Street.

I was first introduced to the area from one of my friends, Gail who captured some beautiful images of people on the street during Halloween. She said that Fremont street turns into “Freakmont street” and for some reason that name has always stuck in my head. So when I left the Neon Museum and looking for a place to eat lunch, I found this place called “Nacho Daddy” just 1 block away from Fremont street. SOLD! I’d get to eat nachos and check out Fremont street for a little bit. 2 for 1 special if you asked me.

So after lunch, I had a blast walking around Fremont Street. I never knew that’s where the iconic Cowboy sign was and a lot of other hotels and casinos I recognized. Next time I visit Vegas, I gotta go a night. I’m sure the whole place lights up like the strip but would be interesting to see how “Freakmont” street does it.
To be honest, I have no idea where I captured this image. I know it was definietly on Fremont street but either some hotel or something off to the side. I particularly enjoyed all the lines and shadows of this image so I captured it really quickly and kept on exploring.

PS I’d recommend Nacho Daddy. The fried avocado taco was way better than expected. My only regret not having more.

Speaking of Aruba….

For some reason when we flew back from Aruba we had a layover in Newark airport. I’m not sure how that happened but either way, I called window seat! This was my first time ever flying into New York or New Jersey. Usually when we go on the weekends, we’ll just drive. It’s so much easier and were not on anyone’s schedule. Were free as birds to come and go as we please.

As we were landing, I looked out the window and I’m pretty sure my jaw dropped. I was NOT expecting this view. It literally took my breath away. I love seeing familiar scenes from different points of views. So I grabbed my camera as fast as I could and started shooting.

It was in the middle of the day so the lighting wasn’t the best. The buildings looked kind of faded from the sunlight so I as I begun editing this image I thought that converting it into a black and white image would be better. What do you think? It totally reminds me of Jason Peterson’s work, who I love. He has definietly been my favorite black and white photographer and artist for the past few years now. So I was super happy with this when it all came together.

In other news, Andrew and I just got back from Norway last night. I’m spending the day working on my images and I can’t wait to share them with you! Norway has got to be one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. I already want to go back to see more of the country, especially the Lofoten Islands and other places up north.

I did not take this image this past snow that we got. I took it a couple of years ago but still really, really enjoy it and figured why not post it? Theres something so peaceful and serene about it. I especially like looking at that platform in the middle of the water and envisioning so much summer fun happening there with floaties and belly flops. Definietly not winter fun. Or at least that’s not my idea of winter fun LOL.

As I was editing this image in Photoshop, I was wondering if I should leave that little bit of yellowish colored grass showing on the right hand of the image. It’s not the most attractive looking grass but in the end, I decided to leave it. Its only a small amount but I love how it shows that this is actually a color image and not black and white. It’s a little detail that could be distracting but I think it tells so much more of the story of what it’s actually like being at this lake.

I also love seeing all the curves in the lake and if you look closely enough, you’ll even see a house or two. This is taken at a neighborhood lake in McLean, Virginia but if you asked me, it looks like it was taken straight out of a movie like Frozen or something. I dunno, I just can’t keep my eyes off of it. I love it so much. I could totally see myself sitting on that grass and staring at this scene for hours. It’d be awesome if I could fly my drone here too. Ohh the possibilities.

WOW December 1st already! The last month of the year and then it’s 2018! CRAZINESS! I expect to capture more scenes like this in the next few weeks. From what I’ve been hearing we’re supposed to be getting an extra snowy winter. And if you ask me if it’s going to be cold, it might as well as be snowing or else what’s the point? Am I right?

My favorite is the untouched snow. But in order to do that, you gotta get up extra early to make sure you’re the first one there. Either that or photoshop. HAHA. But people ask me all the time about driving into the city when it snows. The answer is, I don’t. My little coupe can’t handle icey, slippery roads at all. I’m sliding all over the place and it’s just not worth it. Luckily I live within walking distance to the metro, so usually if you see snow pictures from me, it’s because I took the metro in. Probably the only time of the year where I’ll really use the metro. Otherwise, I much rather drive myself.

This was taken as I was walking down from the Foggy Bottom metro stop. It’s the closest one to Lincoln but I just love this side profile of the memorial. And my favorite part of the image is the hint of green you see on the trees. Otherwise it would be a totally unintended black and white image.

Over the weekend I was excited to visit the Artechouse. A brand new exhibition space in southwest DC with this really cool interactive art exhibit called XYZT: Abstract Landscapes. If I had to describe it, I’d say it was more like a playground for light. For example, this wall that I’m standing in front of is all black. But when you wave your hand or body in front of it, it turns white wherever the sensors pick up your motion. In reality, I had my back turned to the camera, waved my arms around for a little bit and then turned to my profile so that this image could be taken with the white shown behind my head. We did this a few times. Some of the attempts went horribly bad, but that’s the fun of it LOL.

Other parts of the exhibit included some light fun on the floor where you can walk and lines of light would turn into what looked like splashes of water or prickly cactuses. I think out of all of the different experiences our favorites was the enclosed space in the very back. There were all these random letters floating everywhere on a clear wall and if you did a motion like you were opening curtains, then all the letters would fly away. It was very cool and very matrix-like if that makes any sense at all.

So if you’re planning on visiting, I’d go soon. It’s only a temporary exhibit until the fall. Then I’m sure something another else equally as awesome will take it’s place.

The whole space itself was really dark so my camera settings for this image was ISO 5000 f/3.5 at 1/250th of a second.

PS. Happy Fry Day! My favorite food holiday. You already know it’s been marked in my calendar for some time now and what I’ll be eating alllllll day today 🙂
